Residency
How old must I be to prove Florida residency?
Answer
If you are under the age of 24, you are considered a dependent student and must provide residency information in a parent or legal guardian’s name to establish residency along with that person’s two documents being used.
If you are under the age of 24 but want to be considered independent to use your own information for establishing residency, please provide further proof that shows your independent status. This could be any one of the following documents provided and uploaded as part of your application when prompted:
- Florida PrePaid ID card
- Proof of marriage; marriage license issued by the County Clerk’s Office or federal tax return that shows the student filed as a married person.
- Proof of military service; DD-214, Leave Earning Statement (LES), or current active-duty military orders.
- Proof of annual earnings in the amount of $9,300 in taxable income, which could include; federal tax return, W2, or most recent paystub from an employer that shows Year-to-Date (YTD) earnings.
- Proof of being a ward and/or dependent of the court, such as a Department of Children and Families form CF-FSP 5220 available from the student’s DCF caseworker.
- Florida Student Homelessness verification form (FSH-1) completed during an interview with the Admissions Contact assigned to the student’s application.
If you are over the age of 24, you will use your own information and documentation to establish residency.
