What is a Transient Student?
A transient student (or "guest student") is a student who is enrolled at one college, but taking classes at another that will count toward their degree at their home institution. A transient student can be someone who takes a course at PHSC while home for the summer, or who needs a course that is not available at the student's home institution.
Florida Shines Transient Student
Admissions Application Process
Complete the FloridaShines transient application.
- A separate college application is not necessary.
- Your Florida residency status for tuition purposes mirrors what you classified as under your home institution.
- Florida Shines transient students will be charged an additional $5.00 per course.
Please note that FloridaShines recently developed a new mobile app to provide students with 24/7 access to all their free services. Students can download the app for iOS and Android from the FloridaShines website at FloridaShines.org/app.
Financial Aid
Florida Shines transient students will need to work with their home institution to ensure the credits taken at PHSC are included in the processing of their financial aid.
Transcripts
Grades are automatically sent after grades are posted.
Private and Out-of-State Transient Student
Admissions Application Process
- Complete and submit an application available through the PHSC Online Application System and pay the $25.00 application fee.
- Submit a paper transient form from your institution which indicates:
- Course
- Semester
- Necessary approval signatures by all respective Deans or other administrators within your college
- Prove Florida residency.
Financial Aid
- Private and out of state transient students will generally pay out of pocket.
- Follow up with home institution for reimbursement.
Transcripts
Official transcripts are automatically sent after grades are posted. However, it is up to the student to request the transcripts through their student account if their home institution has not received the grades.
